How do I acquire legal protection against physical assaults?

So, I had a little argument with two "friends," one of whom was the ex of another friend of mine. The argument was whether or not it takes more training and intelligence to write a classical symphony, or to bake a muffin.

Anyways, throughout the course of the argument, I ended up insulting them both a little bit, and now the guy who's ex I was arguing with called me up and said "**** you you mother****ing whorebitch. Just because she's my ex doesn't mean you can sit around and insult her like that. You better watch your back because i'm gonna rip out your intestines and hang you from your neck by them."

Is there some way I can let the cops know this guys name and whereabouts, just in case? How do I deal with a threat like that?

By the way, I saved the entire argument I had with the two kids (it was on facebook), and I have no problem showing that to anybody. I did not say anything incriminating at all. I did imply that they were stupid or ignorant now and then, but definitely nothing harmful or illegal.
 
I laughed hearing the reason of the argument. :p

It was not a threat, it was an insult. He was pissed and angry, same as you were. Only difference is that he went farther then you thought someone would.

He threatened me with murder. That's different than saying "I think you're ignorant about what goes into writing a symphony."

edit: I know it's a ridiculous argument. I of course was arguing that it takes more training and intelligence to write a symphony. Actually, I was referring specifically to the kind of symphony that Tchaikovsky wrote. I was saying that to write a symphony like Tchaikovsky did, takes more talent and intelligence than it takes to bake a muffin. They were saying that that wasn't true. Anyways, this is irrelevant.

What has happened to common sense? If you feel the need or threatened call the local police and report what happened to them. I think that is what they are for? Posting text on a forum or other public board will not save you from harm.
 
Still don't think it is worth calling the police but obviously i did not hear him say that to me so I can't be the guy to be a jerk and change your oppinion

I know. I just thought i'd ask here, to see if anyone has any other ideas, other than calling the police.
 
Talk to your ex. Try to diffuse the situation, and prepare to maybe get roughed up a little.
Oh, and learn to shut your big fat mouth. Seriously, you called someone ignorant to their face? I don't care what the argument/discussion was about, that is just lame.

He probably just said that because he wanted to impress her. He probably misses being with her. People do dumb things when trying to impress people, especially the opposite sex.

If you do go to the police they probably won't do anything. And you will sound like a whiner, it won't help your situation.

Yep, go to the police station and request a restraining order, and if they call you over the phone and continue the threats an arrest for violating the order and terroristic threats will likely be filed.

Sort of sad these days where being an ass and threatening people leads to terroristic threats instead of simple restraining orders.
 
This has gone on for long enough.

If you thought the guy would murder you, you'd have run screaming to the police way before deciding to post on macrumors for advice (or sympathy?).

Seeing as you obviously don't, no court of law would believe you did feel threatened simply by the fact that you did decide to take advice from an online community specialising in computers, not personal security.

If you want to tell your story it does not disturb me; but when it's dressed up as 'this guy just threatened to murder me, oh my god what do I do?' I see it as quite an unsubtle way of generating crap, self-indulgent conversation. Seriously friend, pick up the chat.

By way of addendum, this reminds me of a thread a few months back, where the OP claimed to have been mugged in a sale gone wrong by three 'black' guys, and one of the first responses was along the lines of 'there must seriously be something wrong with you if get mugged and beaten and the first thing you do is post on macrumors'.

Moderator - can you end this thread unless the OP has something else he mortally fears?
 
Well, it's true that I'm not panicking, but I am sincerely worried that this guy might actually be planning to kill me, and I'd like to prevent that if possible.
 
So take it down the cop shop - immediately!

If you don't then evaluate why when you are 'sincerely worried' that your life is danger you go to the internet before those you pay taxes to defend you.

If you turn up dead in 4 days time, it will pathetic as much as anything else that when you feared for your life you sought advice (or again, is it sympathy?) from an online community, that you ought to have realised is divided and ambivalent about most things apart from the how good Macs are.
 
I couldn't stop laughing when reading this post.

First off I would suggest you get in the weight room because you seem pretty afraid of this guy which leads me to believe you know he could easily beat your A**, who would honestly post on MacRumors about their fearing for their life with out actually going to the police? (People who want attention?)

Second if you actually afraid that he would kill you then go buy a gun and a concealed weapon license and just shoot him in the face if he tries to kill you.

Third you said this was an argument on facebook which leads me to believe your in highschool which would mean this kid probably is and this is just a dumb highschool argument which nothing will happen from which in that case you can ignore the 2nd option.
 
wow, how old is this guy? If the guys gonna get butt hurt over a simple insult then there no hope for him. doubt he has the balls to do anything. I wouldn't worry too much...(just start hitting the gym just in case tho lol)
 
Bad idea to repeatedly punch him in the fist with your face until one of you passes out.
 
I think that your motivation to seek "legal protection" is nothing more than trying to escalate the argument. He said he would kill you. I bet if you leave him alone, this will blow over. I also bet that if you seek a restraining order your abuse of the legal system will not result in the type of harmony you so desperately crave.

Like another poster said above, learn to close your mouth. Perhaps if you do this, it will cease writing checks that your body obviously cannot cash.:D
