I don't know how to use Automator but what I want is to be able to right-click any image and have the program MediaInfo in the Open With context menu. I am constantly using this program to open image files and always have to go Open With > Other > All Applications > navigate to MediaInfo > Open.

I want to avoid all this hassle by adding Open With > MediaInfo.

Are there any users out there that know how to do this with Automator?

MediaInfo App:

http://www.mactricksandtips.com/201...r-any-other-app-to-right-click-menu-item.html

This site explains how to put an option to open any image with MediaInfo into the main right-click context menu. Which is fine and works well for me. But it doesn't explain how to add it to the "Open With" context menu.

When I have an app I use often, I keep it in the Dock. Then I drag files onto its Dock icon to open them.

As an alternative, I make a folder called "Tools" where I put aliases of the app. Then I keep "Tools" open on my desktop, and drag files onto the icons there.

I've also done the Service to open with a contextual click, but that gets unwieldy after a few tools, so I prefer the Tools folder, with a small number of perennial apps in the Dock.

The only way I know to add an app to the "Open With" contextual menu is to make an actual app bundle with the resources inside it that indicate it can open or accept files of the desired type(s). In this case, that would be a whole bunch of image file types. This info is in the app's Info.plist file, so it's usually simpler to copy one from an existing app and change other things like the app ID, rather than try to write all the necessary file type info from scratch.

Once the app exists, and you've tested it by dropping files onto its icon, you might have to do a few tricks to convince the system to update the LaunchServices database, which is where Finder gets the info on which apps can open what files.
