I use the multilingual dictionary to check my spelling in Mac OS X 10.4.7 (Int'l English), and it checks my English, Dutch, Spanish and German spelling just fine, but it does not include Finnish, which is unfortunate because I need that checked, too. Is there any way to expand the OS X multilingual spelling dictionary with the inclusion of Finnish? Can I download the Finnish spelling dictionary from anywhere?

I find it very strange that OS X spelling doesn't include Finnish, because I am able to put the entire user interface into Finnish by putting Finnish at the top of the Languages list in the International system preferences. So, then why no Finnish spell checking?

I don't think there is an easy way to do this. Norwegian is missing, too, and it would be nice to be able to add that to the system wide spell checker... :(

There's always aspell and ispell, which I used under Panther to get spell checking in LyX, but they're quite a hassle to install, IMO.

I've used Thunderbird dictionaries in Firefox 2 alpha (aka Bon Echo) and now in Firefox 3 pre-alpha (aka Minefield), and that works great... in Firefox, that is... ;)

I am told a Finnish spell checker can be found here. Since I do not know Finnish, I have no idea what the page says. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Man, that's so dumb… How can Apple claim to support these languages when they can't even be bothered to include basic spell checking for them? :( I'm quite disappointed, I have to say. I really feel there ought to be an easy way to extend your spell check dictionary when necessary.
