You can backup regularly in itunes. Just dont forget that if you upgrade, you will lose your jailbreak. There is no jailbreak for ios 6 on the 4S.

I would wait a little bit until a jailbreak is ready

I'm going to factory unlock that's the only reason why I jailbroke my phone
is that the only way?
