I have an iPad Air and an amazon kindle. I get kindle magazines which I can read on my ipad with a kindle app.

Last time I updated my iOS it wiped away all the downloaded files in my kindle app. How do I back-up these kindle magazines? Can I do it to the iCloud? I need a back-up because the amazon cloud only keeps magazines in it for 7 months.

Note I can't just plug my kindle in and copy the files directly because I believe it uses a different format file than my iPad. On monochrome kindle the magazines are .azw but on IPad I believe they are full color .kF8 files.

Thanks for any help/comments/suggestions in advance.

You install the Kindle app from the App Store onto your iPad. Choose either the device or the cloud tab in the app, located at the bottom center of the screen and they should be there. Or you may be able to re-download them from amazon.com. I had Kindle on my android and Apple.

A!

I've downloaded the app and done all that. But this still leaves me reliant on the amazon cloud. After 7 months the amazon cloud deletes the oldest issue. Then the next month it will delete the next oldest issue. And so on.

How do I backup the kindle magazine files so I still have them when the amazon cloud deletes them?

Will an iTunes backup/restore save the kindle files?

Is there any way to get at the kindle files directly on the iPad, and copy them somewhere?

It's not possible. You can back up books if you're willing to learn how to remove DRM with Calibre, but not magazines.
