Hello

macOS High Sierra AND Mojave

I want to back up my Safari Preferences, where are they stored?

It is a good idea to backup them in a USB stick?

Thanks
Camelia

The Safari preferences reside in the ~/Library/Safari and ~/Library/Preferences folder. The best way to backup those preferences is to use Time Machine.

OP asked:
"What about backing up with CCC?"

When you use CCC, EVERYTHING gets backed up.
And the backup is bootable, as well.

Unless you choose to backup only certain selected files...

I see you mentioned you don't care about backing up cookies... so what exactly are you trying to save?

If you just want to save bookmarks, you can easily export them to a file and just save that.

That should be saved in the file called com.apple.Safari.plist in the folder ~/Library/Preferences.

~ is your users folder.

But

I do not want to backup the default Bookmarks

02BookMarks.png

What I do is manually delete all the defaults Bookmarks and create a New folder, then select the favorites to show to the folder I created in General Preferences

Is possible to backup "Favorites shows" And Not backing the default Bookmarks?

Thanks

Hello Again

I can see the file called com.apple.Safari.plist in the folder ~/Library/Preferences in High Sierra

but in Mojave I cannot find "com.apple.Safari.plist", there is only:

Code:
com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing.plist
com.apple.Safari.SandoboxBroker.plist

Please help 😭😭

It's there for me - not sure why it's not for you. There is also a file in:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Safari/Data/Library/Preferences (and also SyncedPreferences)

Use the free app Find Any File - I find it so much easier than Finder or Spotlight.

When I updated from Mojave to Catalina com.apple.Safari.plist was in the ~/Library/Preferences folder in my Mojave backup.
