I have a simple, straightforward question and I'm hoping it's a simple, straightforward solution. I want to block someone from sending me calls, messages / texts and facetime and I know that the "block" function in the phone settings works but the only option I see there is to add them to my contacts and then block them. If I'm blocking them, I certainly don't want to see their name in my phone book. Is there a way around this?

Thanks!!!

You can block a number without having it in your Contacts. I have a long list of Spam numbers blocked.

There are also applications like Call Blocker that you can use to whitelist your Contacts.

This used to be the main reason I would continue to jailbreak, the need to have control of incoming communications. But developers have become adept at managing the DND function without violating Apple standards, so I don't even necessarily see a need to jailbreak any longer to be in control.

From the Recent list, tap the "i" on the number you want to block. On the next page, at the bottom, there's an option to block the number.

So how do I block a number without having it in my Contacts?

If you remember the phone number, you can dial it and quickly cancel the call, then it will be in your Recent tab. If you don't remember, you have to wait until they try calling or texting you again.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I just went through it myself. I just wanted to let you know, in case you didn't, that from their end it will seem like their call is going through. They end up at voice mail, where its my understanding that they can leave one, but it never appears on any of our notifications. Same for texts. They may think they are getting through but we won't see it. That was my understanding of how it works. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. Unfortunately I know of nothing that leaves the caller or texter with the same definitive dead end they'd get if you could change your number and deactivate the one they're calling.

You may also have options to block a number through your carrier. AT&T charges for the service but I think some of the others do not. Good luck to you.
