Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how to buy AppleCare+ after 60 days? Or is this not offered anymore? Seems like there are a ton of articles that you can purchase apple care before 365 days and that the coverage starts on the day you purchase Apple Care. The only thing, is to have the Genius Bar inspect your equipment first to make sure it is in good condition.

I want to do this. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to make a Genius Bar appointment. It used to be you could just pick your favorite store and select an available slot. At some point in my search on the apple.com website it led me to a phone call... where the rep on the other end insisted you cannot buy AppleCare+ after 60 days. So maybe this isn't offered anymore?

Any recent advice?

Within 60 days, you can buy AppleCare directly from the device you want to purchase cover for. After that, I don’t think there’s a way to purchase AppleCare.
However, if you have other ways to obtain some level of insurance (with credit card company for example) for your Apple device, go with those.

Within 60 days you can do it directly from the device. After 60 days, you can still get applecare + added, but you must go to the apple store for a physical inspection and then get the applecare +.’

I don’t think you can buy it after the first 60 days through the device, you’ll need to go into an Apple store.

Yes you can. I even asked Apple sales. They said that you can but must come to the store to do it after 60 days.

edit to add: probably based on location. Im in the U.S and they can do it.

I am totally fine buying the apple care in store. My only issue is that I cant seem to make an appointment. Do I just walk in?

Also I am in the US. But so far I have been on chat and phone with Apple Reps who swear its not possible to buy Apple Care after 60 days. Starting to think this isn't possible.

If you don't make an appointment and just show up you'll wait in a very long line. I was just at the local store last weekend getting my battery replaced in my X and anyone without an appointment either waited for over an hour or just left after waiting that long. Tons of appointments and appointments have priority.. I personally would not go without an appointment

And yet, that's where I am stuck. I cant seem to be able to make an appointment on apple.com. I go to make an appointment online or by phone it directs me to a rep (both times) who insist I can't buy AC+ after 60 days. And as far as I can tell, there's no way to just pull up my local Apple Store and select an available time for an appointment all by myself.

Even though there are a dozen articles online on how to do this (Verge, 9to5 Mac, Bloomberg, MacRumors, etc...) I am beginning to think this isn't possible in Oct 2021. Nothing published by Apple even says it's possible to purchase AC after 60 days. Multiple reps are telling me it's impossible. To the point I'm not even permitted to make an appointment without a gatekeeper telling me AC isn't available.

Are the Apple stores in your area allowing in store services? I'm in Arizona and we don't have any restrictions unless a particular store has a mask requirement (which Apple does). You might try to setup a shopping appointment and when you get in just tell them you want to add AppleCare+ to your device. I don't think they'll mind since after I gave them my phone for the battery replacement, they told me I could hangout and look at the new phones if wanted.. If your stores aren't allowing in-store contact, not sure what your options would be

Have you tried this option yet? It might work even if you bought directly from Apple. The article is from August 2021.

How do I buy AppleCare+ for products I didn’t buy directly from Apple?

The easiest way is online. Apple’s site has a page to Check Your Service and Support Coverage. Enter your device’s serial number and it’ll tell you if you can still buy AppleCare+ and walk you through the process of purchasing and registering your plan.

Keep in mind that buying an AppleCare+ plan after the fact often means you have to complete a diagnostic test on the device. After all, Apple has to make sure you’re not trying to buy coverage on a device that’s already broken. So do it right away, just in case.

I’ve had success with purchasing AppleCare after the 60 day mark by calling Apple customer service. I was never told that I have to go into the store for an inspection of the device in order for them to approve the purchase. My experience is with buying directly from Apple or through BestBuy.

I’ve purchased an iPad for a gift which won’t be opened until Christmas. The online retailer didn’t offer AC+, or at lease I didn’t see it offered. Can I add AC+ to this device prior to it being opened and activated by the receiver (which won’t be for almost 3 months)? If AC+ can be attached to the serial number it is visible on the back of the box.

Nope. Your better off returning the iPad while you still can and re-purchasing it with AppleCare paid at time of purchase.
