Hey, those are handy links, thanks.

•Copy the image, one at a time, from those links.
•Haul the icon you want to change from the Dock on to the desktop - it should disappear (it's really only an alias)
•Open Applications (or Utilities, whatever)
•Choose the original application or folder icon you wish to change
•Click to select
•Get Info (Command-I)
•Click on the icon in the top left corner of the Info window
•Paste (Cmd-V) the new icon
•Close Info window
•Haul the now changed original application or folder icon back to the Dock.

For your Mac HD icon, leave out Steps 2, 3, 4, and 8, instead just click-select the original icon on the desktop, and paste the new one into the Info window.
 
I did the exact same thing but my screen just keep flashing...
and the icon is not getting changed
