I have several programs residing in my menubar (hazel, caffeine, etc.). When I start up the Mac, the order in which they appear continually changes. I would like to orient it so that certain items appear in a specific order. Is it possible to do this?

It won't be automatic, but you can change the order manually by holding down command and dragging an item on the menu bar to where you want it.

UPDATE: BTW, this doesn't work with programs that are forcing their position, which I know Adium and QuickSilver, for instance, are capable of doing.

I tried what you suggested with all the menu bar items and it didn't work.

Cmd+click and drag only works for Apple menu items and other "well behaved" ones. I have found that most 3rd party apps don't work.

Yeah that's my experience too. Some apps like QuickSilver allow you to choose how they behave in the menu bar, but others like Adium seem to force themselves to the left and won't move.
