Currently, it's in feet. I can't find where to change the units in the Watch app or the Compass app on the iPhone. I long tapped in the Compass app on the iPhone, but nothing happened, it wouldn't let me change the units.
I'm guessing you're from or in the U.K.? If yes, curious as to why you want the units in feet? I'm in the US and want it meters to be more fluent in international units, in particular, SI units.Apparently his: (from Apple support forums)
“The only way I can find, is to set the region on the iPhone Watch app in General/Language & Region to ‘Custom’, then set the region to be an area that uses metric or imperial.
e.g USA for feet, U.K for metres (height anyway).
I have no idea what else this may affect.”
Absolutely bloody mental. Whoever at Apple signed this off as acceptable needs sacking!

Perhaps this gets fixed in a future update. Yes, definite oversight!
Yeah sorted. It was switching the measurement system from U.K. to Metric that fixed it - I assumed UK would be metric! On my watch, I set it to “Mirror my iPhone” and on the iPhone I have selected English / UK plus the measurement system to metric. Have you tried rebooting both the watch and phone after changing the settings?
Just bringing this back to life...I have spent HOURS on this - it was driving me mad - details I know but.....! The iPhone compass app, the inner ring on the regular adventure watch face and the Watch Compass app all showing different units! All I wanted was Altitude in meters on my watch face like my Garmin....
Anyway by following the above series of changes finally got it to work - you need to change the units on your iPhone to Metric, not jsut UK which wasn't even showing at one time on my iPhone settings, need to Mirror the watch / phone and fiddle aroudn with the whole lot of them as above but eventually it DOES work - persevere.... Thank you to all those above. Phew!
