I have an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro. iCloud Messages is activated on all devices.

I am trying to get rid of the attachments (mainly photos and videos) since I always save them to my Photo app anyway.

However, when I go to Settings > Storage > Messages it does not list all the attachments. I delete the list but when I check conversations within Messages, there are still plenty of attachments. Also, the attachments do not match between devices.

For example iPhone shows 30 photos attached with conversation of contact A. When I check the same conversation on my MacBook Pro, it only shows 5 attachments. When I delete those attachments (photos) from my iPad, they do not clear within the conversations on iPhone or MacBook Pro.

Also, I could spent half an hour deleting all attachments (photos) on my iPhone and suddenly a day or so later, it will show attached photos again within those Messages conversations and often those photos were not even there in the first plac!

Another thing, sometimes it claims there are more photos in the Cloud but when I tap the button, nothing actually appears? The iCloud message only goes away.

It is so weird! I just want to delete all attachments from iCloud Messages but not the conversations (texts) themselves

I've been fighting this for years with no luck. It seems like most people don't actually grasp the glitch (they don't care or just keeping buying more iCloud space) or don't use multiple Apple devices. I believe the root of the issue lies there - multiple devices sync'ing Messages (and attachments). I have even went so far as disabling Message sync and deleted the same images from my phone and my laptop (in the Messages app on both). My opinion is what was happening is you delete an image using the phone, for example, and the other device says "hey, that image was just deleted, let's re-sync it". Didn't work though....

Do you have iCloud Photos enabled or disabled ? I have it disabled.
