I have some residual junk left behind from apps which I had uninstalled - and these are extensions and system preference type things really - which I cannot find any way to remove. The two in question are Karabiner (key remapping tool), and USB Overdrive (mouse acceleration killer). Neither installed into the apps folder but both had their own "uninstall" buttons internally.

After uninstalling both of them they appear to be gone, but looking in system prefs/users & groups/login items, I see both are still there. I tried an application called Appcleaner, but that wasn't able to find either.

Is there any way I can purge my system of these app remnants?

Thanks!

That's the trouble though, I don't know where they are.
I found an app called CleanMyMac which looks like it might work.

They are in your "Applications" folder.

Q. Are you recently coming from Windows?

Get Pacifist open the installer in it this will show you every file that was installed and where they went to. Now it is simply a matter of either manually from command line in Terminal.app deleting them or use finder to locate and drag to trash.

Thanks for the heads up on CleanMyMac. It looks so pretty though!

I've been on Windows for years (although I did have Macs way back) so when the drag the application to the trash didn't work I was a bit lost for what to do.

I use Dr Cleaner which erases junk files as otherwise my hard disk fills up constantly and I can't find the cause.

Or just leave them. If nothing is broke, don't go trying to fix it by manually deleting files you know nothing about.

For example, some applications share certain kinds of files, like frameworks, etc. If you install something, and it finds that framework already exist, fine. So now you go in and delete it. OOPS. The subsequent program you installed now stops working properly because it can't find that framework. Not always the case, but unless you know that, just use an application's own uninstaller or drag to the trash.

Avoid CleanMyMac, if possible!
You can use EasyFind to spot all the files you would like to get rid of.
Really, I ve been using this software for awhile and seems to be working great??
