I'm going to exchange it soon and I don't want any information left on it at all. By this I mean that it is not recoverable in any way. Also, if I return it will they cancel my 2 year commitment for free? I only got it like 4 days ago.

Settings/General/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings

Keep it mind it will take about an hour.

once it starts doing that, is it possible to stop it?

I wouldn't want to try. Its formatting the phone, never a good idea to stop mid-process.

That being said, I don't think you can. Its outside the normal OS itself so there aren't any buttons to press.

thats what i figured, the only reason i asked is that when i returned my old phone, i set it to format after i was sure i'd get a new one that day, so it wasn't finished when i left the store...i just wanted to know if i should be changing my passwords or if i'm safe in thinking it finished

what if the battery died before it finished?

never tried but I would assume the process would start again.
