I have a 2020 iPad Pro that has a USB-C port. How do I connect a lav microphone with a 3.5mm jack that I normally use with a camcorder? I thought it was a straight solution of getting the right adapter but reading online I’ve seen all sorts of comments about powered stuff that has left me unsure.

i didn’t want to double post but less urgent how do I connect it to iPhone X with lightning port?
thanks

I think you would need a powered hub to connect to your USB-C port of your iPad Pro. Something like this:

Then plug your mic into a 3.5mm female to RCA adapter to connect into a box like this:

Behringer UCA202 U-Control Ultra low-latency 2 In/2 Out USB/Audio Interface

The Behringer would then plug into the Usb-c hub.

This YouTube has a good explanation which would apply more to your iPhone X with it’s lightning port, you basically use a Apple lightning to USB adapter and plug the Behringer into it:
