How do I convert VTS IFO into subs?

I have a dvd file with VOB, IFO and BUP files that i want to convert to one mkv with multiple audio and subs. I've managed to combine the VOB into one file which has the different audio and subs, but when I convert it in handbreak with the foreign subtile search selected, the subs aren't visible in VLC. I can select them in VLC menu, but they don't appear on the screen.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

You could try going to one of the many sites that have fan compiled sub-title files and getting one of them for it to see if that will work for you.

thanks. i couldn't find the subs, but i found an mkv version of the file, extracted the subs and put them on the file i wanted.
