Hi,

How do I deactivate the DVD player from my ibook ??

It doesn´t allow me to play a movie with VLC. The DVD will get
ejected if I try to play it with VLC.

Moreover, using the built-in DVD player, it prevents me from
playing DVDs from other regions.

That´s why I want to use VLC because VLC allows you to see a
DVD regardless of region.

Why does apple design things this way ?? Many people travel often
to Europe and/or to other parts of the world. These persons may
watch a DVD when they are there, and then watch another back
here. The only problem is that one can only change the region up
to six times.

thank you,

Well, try this:

System Preferences > CDs & DVDs > When you insert a video DVD

Change this from the default to VLC.

Second, this is NOT an Apple thing. It's an industry-standard thing on DVD drives. This is one of the reasons many of us have become extremely anti-Hollywood. This is an example of how the Entertainment Injusticetry has turned what should be little more than company policy into both U.S. Federal / International law and also de-facto rule.

As I don't travel internationally, playing DVDs with different RCEs, etc., doesn't technically affect me directly. However, as a form of public control, it does affect me indirectly. That's why folks out there like Jon Johansen, aka "DVD Jon" do what they do, and why many of us feel that FSF/OSS is the best possible future for us as a species.
