You are just going to be downloading the same exact software you already have. Apple does a hex code check on everything you download to make sure its not corrupt. Don't be stupid and just restore it from your already downloaded 2.1 firmware.

I want to do a full restore with a fresh download of 2.1. I already deleted the backups

first you have to find the folder that 2.1 is located in. On my computer (Vista) it is located here: (if your on a mac it will be someplace else)

C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

me is my user name on my pc - on yours it will be your user name. erase:

iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw

and the next time you restore with itunes it will redownload the file.

You want to put your iPhone into DFU mode and due a restore in iTunes.

1. Hold Power & Home for 10 seconds.
2. Let go of the Power button and continue holding home for 10 more seconds.
3. Your screen will be blank and iTunes will see an iPhone in recovery mode and let you restore.

You will have a completely new and clean install of iPhone OS 2.1.

I think thats what you were looking to do.

awesome. I am trying to unpwn actually. I did one restore but the numerical battery meter still comes up. I thought the jailbreak was cool and all, but the phone runs much better without it. There really was nothing all that useful for me.

if you want to completely clear a jailbrake restore to 2.1; then go to settings - general - reset - and hit erase all content and settings then set up as new phone.
