I'm at my wits' end with this issue I've been having for months now. Here's the gist of it. For probably around 5 or so months now, I've been having this issue where Firefox automatically just closes on me, no warning or anything. The process just ends automatically. I could be in the middle of watching a youtube video, reading an article, composing an email, etc. It happens every 24 hours at the same time and I have no idea why it's happening or how to make it stop.

I have an M1 2020 Mac Mini if that helps. Here are all the things I've tried so far:

  • Updating macOS to the latest version
  • Updating Firefox to the latest version
  • Running Firefox in troubleshoot mode
  • Uninstalling all extensions within Firefox
  • Creating and using new profiles within Firefox
  • Uninstalling / Reinstalling Firefox
  • Having the console application running and capturing log messages at the exact time Firefox closes
Nothing has worked. It doesn't even seem to be that firefox is crashing as there's never a crash report. It just seems to be closing as if you were to hit command+Q. I have an intel based MacBook pro running the latest macOS and firefox and everything works perfectly fine on that. For a moment I thought that maybe the issue could be due to some compatibility problems with Firefox and the M1 mac, but that doesn't make sense either as this problem is not something that I've been experiencing from the beginning on my Mac Mini. It started seemingly out of nowhere back in November or so. Furthermore, I've not been able to find anyone else having the same issue and if it were an M1 compatibility issue I feel like I would have seen something about it while doing research by now.

Is there any tactics or methods that some of you can recommend that can help me figure out why this is happening and get it to finally stop. I feel like the only thing I haven't tried at this point is a full on system reformat, but I'd really like to avoid doing that if possible.

I've asked for help on the Mozilla forums, Apple forums, and the firefox and macOS subreddits. I've barely gotten any responses anywhere, and the couple of responses that I have gotten unfortunately did not lead to any solution. Hoping i could get some more support from these forms.

What is the time of day when Firefox quits?
Is there anything distinctive about that time for you?
Nothing distinctive at all. After the most recent uninstall / reinstall (which was a few days ago) it looks like it's now crashing around 2:12pm EST
