How do I find broken external HDD data with TimeMachine

Hi.
This is testing my patience. I backed up my comp and an external HDD (A) using TimeMachine on another external HDD (B). Now the HDD (A) is having severe problems and I can't get it to mount reliably. How can I access the backed up data in TimeMachine when problem drive won't mount?

That (seemingly) only works when the drive is mountable.
