I'm looking at buying a used Macbook. I've checked the serial number on the Apple website and have confirmed that it still has Applecare - but how do I find out when it ends?

It will be 3 years from the original purchase date of the MacBook
The site did not give any dates?
I have never checked to see

The seller should have some confirmation of the dates, a receipt of some kind

take your serial number and put it in here.

Chrislaw - thanks, that's what I already did, though, and although it confirmed that there's still a valid warranty, it couldn't give me the expiration date.

I've finally just called Apple service, and they were able to give me the expiration date. She also said, to the best of her knowledge, there's no way I could have found the date myself online. So, now I know for the future - it takes a phone call. :)

Weird. Although I don't have AppleCare, I plugged my # in there and it told me when my 1 yr warranty was up.

The expiration date shows for me. It does not say the exact date but rather an estimated date.

"Our records indicate that your product is covered for service and telephone support under the AppleCare Protection Plan which is estimated to expire on November 02, 2010." MC

I've never heard of an Apple product that you couldn't find the specific AppleCare expiration date for online. It isn't limited to US-purchased products either.

That's very weird. :S
