I recently removed my old SSD drive from my broken macbook air to retrieve the data externally using an HDD adapter and another macbook but it seems I can't format this drive now I've extracted the data I need.

I simply move all its items to the trash and the disk seems empty but when I check the disk info it registers at nearly half of its capacity as if all my data is still there, can anybody help?

Did you try to use the Disk Utility to either erase or format the drive?

Thanks Mike, that worked! clearly my knowledge is very basic with computers but it improves every time I use this forum, thanks again.

Glad that worked. We all start off with a very basic knowledge :)
