how do I get an icon to "stick"

I've created a shortcut to my google calendar (.webloc file) and added an icon that I found. I want to share that with other people but whenever I attach it to a message post from a forum and download it, it downloads with the generic web shortcut icon. Is there anyway that I can get the custom icon that I added to "stick"?
