I have an iPod Touch 2G with 4.0.1 firmware and I have many apps that I want on the machine.

How do I get apps onto it without having to use iTunes?

Also, how do I install "unofficial" apps onto my iPod? Many apps when I try to install them (at least with iTunes) are "invalid", so says iTunes.

Any input would be sincerely appreciated.

Seriously?

Over 100 views and no one got the gumption to help me out?

What's the point of a forum if a guy can't get help?

You can download apps from the App Store straight on to your iPod Touch.

If you're talking about the ones like MyWi, then you'd need to jailbreak your iPod Touch. If you're talking about ones that *ahem* aren't obtained legally, then again, you still need to have your iPod Touch jailbroken.

Agreed.

However, my post clearly wasn't asking for how to use the App Store. Obviously if I have enough brains to use an online forum (which takes none at all), I had enough intelligence to notice that the App Store is where one gets apps from iTunes.

I have downloaded hundreds of apps from various different places only to find that maybe 10% of them work. They are coming up as either "invalid" in iTunes or won't install for a myriad of other reasons.

I am curious to find a way to plug my iPod in to my computer, drag and drop apps into my iPod and be done with it. No fuss, no muss.

I would like to know if iTunes is the only way to get apps onto my ipod Touch (sans Cydia, thanks for the *ahem* insight though, ideal.dreams *smiley*).

Again, thank you for any and all help.

(P.S. - As an update to whoever thinks they can assist me: I just recently restored back to iOS4 and jailbroke my phone using jailbreakme.com.)
