Mail on my M1 MacBook Air wont show unread badges, I have turned the option on in Notification settings but still nothing.. any ideas guys?

How do I get Mail to show badges?

It’ll only show badges if you have the app open, IIRC. Also, you may need to choose which mailboxes contribute to the badge count, see “unread count” in Mail preferences - General https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mail/cpmlprefgen/16.0/mac/15.0
Found I have never looked at which mailboxes contribute to the unread count. Discovered that it can be a "smart" mailbox. That suits my way of working. Thanks!
