Sorry for sounding like a noob, but, I literally have no idea what to do.

I own an iPhone 4, running 4.0.1 software currently. I would like to update to 4.2, or if that's not recommended, 4.1.

What do I do? How do I do it? What files do I need? Could someone show me a guide or something on how to do it?

Much appreciated. Thank you!

Stay at 4.0.1 and go to jailbreakme.com using Safari on your iphone. You're not missing too much on either 4.1 or 4.2.1. This is the easiest way to JB for you.

If you saved the SHSH blobs for 4.1 and have a Mac, you can use PwnageTool to upgrade to 4.1

I'm already jailbroke, so isn't that pointless?

And about the SHSH blobs... what even are they? Haha, that's the extent of my knowledge. I don't even own a Mac either..

If you want to know more, you can read this thread

Jailbreak FAQ and commonly use Terminology + Guides

Unless you are having issues with your proximity sensor or bluetooth, there isn't a real reason to upgrade at the moment.

My mistake. Misread your title. Yeah, it would be pointless

Thank you. I guess I'll stay at 4.0.1 then until its worth upgrading. But your topic really helped, thank you!

Haha, no worries. I was confused at first :p Didn't think I could just do it through that again :p
