When I close the lid on my macOS Sonoma MacBook Pro, I want it to go to sleep, just like my much older Intel MacBook Pro did. However, there does not seem to be any place where I can directly configure the action to take when the lid is closed... and my MacBook Pro does not sleep when I close the lid - it seems to keep running and slowly waste the battery power.

Does anyone know how to configure macOS Sonoma to put a MacBook Pro to sleep when the lid is closed?

Here are some good suggestions from Apple:

Pay particular attention to the section titled, "Check the software or SMC". Make sure you're updated to the latest version of Sonoma, consider testing the computer in safe mode, and be sure to reset your SMC.

Thanks @chabig. While I appreciate the pointers, these are all generic suggestions, versus a direct ability to configure what the MacBook Pro does when the lid is closed. It is nearly appalling that Sonoma does not allow you to do this.

I will go back and fire up my older Snow Leopard Intel MacBook Pro and check... I am pretty sure that the "close the lid action" could be directly configured. I am on the road this week, so I will check when I am back next week.

In my opinion, iOS is horrible, and the more Apple tries to make macOS like iOS, the more horrible macOS becomes, at least at a user interface level. I wonder if this "lid action" omission is a consequence of the iOS'ification of macOS?
