How do I get out of an inline message?!

okay, I must be missing the obvious, but so are a handful of my friends. when you start an inline message in iOS14, how in the world do you get back to the regular conversation?! This is baffling and frankly maddening, but I'm sure its me missing something simple.

Try tapping twice in the center of the message.
