I had the 30 day or whatever trial of .Mac and the iDisk, but I wan't to get rid of the icon and the crap that comes with it because "Mirror agent" is slowing my macbook down and stuff. So how do I permanently get rid of iDisk?

Click on the Desktop & then in the Menu Bar go to Finder > Preferences > Sidebar & uncheck iDisk (and anything else you don't want to appear in the Finder window sidebar).

Actually, to stop the mirror agent thing, I think you want System Preferences > .Mac and turn off iDisk synching.

Can't you just drag it onto the trash and eject it ?

Nothing happens when I do that...

PeggyD: it was already unchecked

Gee: It was already turned off

I can't eject the iDisk icon, through activity monitor I can't force quit mirroragent, but the iDisk and mirroragent start up whenever my macbook is turned on and I want them gone.

Little thread resurrection: I'm having some very similar problems to those described here.

My .mac account expired and I didn't uncheck the iDisk syncing checkbox before it did, and now I can't even access that prefpane.

I want to figure out how to disable mirroragent and stop iDisk from showing up on the desktop. I try to eject it by dragging to the trash and nothing happens.

Did anyone ever figure out a workaround for this?

figured it out

just go to system pref and click on mobileme and then sign out. When you do that your idisk icon changes and then you can drag that into the trash. : )

Solution

i had the same problem for so long, the solution for me was:

System preferences->mobile me-> SIGN OUT

hope this works for you too!

Click on the Desktop & then in the Menu Bar go to Finder > Preferences > Sidebar & uncheck iDisk (and anything else you don't want to appear in the Finder window sidebar).

Well I always seem to learn things that I didn't even know I wanted to learn--a nice tip for me.
