How do i hide desktop icons?

I want to hide the "Macintosh HD", folders, and applications.
How do i do that?

Finder>Preferences>General>Show These Items on Desktop: Check the ones you want on there and uncheck the ones you don't want.

Applications should be moved to the applications folder in finder.

Folders can be put wherever you want pretty much.

are you trying to hide them from the dock or the actual desktop screen?

if you have you applications on your desktop, then drag them to the applications folder as shown in a picture above in a finder window.

then just drag the folders into the documents folder in a finder window.
