I started a C# course and I need to install Mono on my Mac so I can write C# applications. However, I'm a bit unsure on what I need to install.

On this page there are two options: Mono MRE or Mono SDK

Then there's this page where there are two more options: Xamarin Studio and Mono + GTK#.

So which one(s) do I install? Thanks!

Are you going to be taught using .Net 5?? If so, I'm pretty sure Mono is actually current using .Net 4 and there is differences between the revisions that might affect your work.

Why not develop C# under windows using the best IDE around?

To answer your question. You will need to install the MRE and MDK or just install Xam studio as it has everything you need.
