Hey guys I just bought a 32gb iPod touch today and upgraded to the 1.1.4 firmware before realizing that I needed to downgrade it in order to jailbreak it. I've been reading a lot about how applications such as iJailbreak and Ziphone don't work with the 16/32gb iPod touch models. I've tried to downgrade the firmware but I keep on getting the error:

"The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1)."

Is there a way to get this working? I know a lot of people have been asking about this and any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks~

You can't yet... I've been trying to jailbreak my 16gb after stupidly upgrading it, and it does the same error that you described above. I tried downgrading, with iTunes 7.4.2 and iPHUC but... NOTHING!

I had the same problem with my 16gb Touch. I had it upgraded to 1.1.4 and couldn’t install older firmware to jailbreak.

What I did to successfully jailbreak it was use zIphone to jailbreak after watching the video on the download page (link below). It looks like a strange way to do things, but it worked. You might have to try it a couple of times but it should work for you. Start with a “clean” 1.1.4 iPod and then follow the steps in the video.

Good luck.

I have try ZiPhone like 4 times now (using an iPod Touch 8GB 1.1.4) and it goes to the black screen with codes on white and it get stuck on:

Opend:/dev/tty/debug
Spamming AT,waiting for a responce

I wait like 30 minutes and nothing... I think I'll kill ZiPhone installer now.

I have to download okTop Prep, SSD Subsystem etc?

It works! I followed the Ziphone method here:

http://lonman06.com/2008/03/06/ipod-touch-jailbreak-114-on-8gb-or-16gb-confirmed/

If you let it repeatedly try to jailbreak and then turn it off, boot onto normal mode the Installer app will eventually show up.

Edit: THIS WORKS ON MY 32GB iPod touch.

if this doesnt work for you, install itunes 7.5
download this file http://rapidshare.com/files/84859979/AutoDown.zip.html
its called autodown, unzip it, run down.bat and follow the instructions there, you will also need 1.1.1 (if thats what you are downgrading to, the link to download that is in the readme of this file) if you have and problems search youtube for a video of autodown ipod touch

Tapping repeatitively on the Jailbreak button is only available on the Windows version of ZiPhone as far as I can tell. On the Mac, you need to click on another button for things to start up dans that button is deactivated once the process is starting up... Nobody tells that crucial part when they say how they did it.

I boot camp under Windows XP and tried the PC version of ZiPhone with that trick and it didn't worked. I have tried it like 10 times with different rythm, etc. and it STILL DIDN'T WORK.

THIS MEANS THAT... not all iPod touch 16Gb will work with that procedure. I have the first generation by the way, people should divulge more information about that stuff!

Wow, I've been able to downgrade my iPod touch 16Gb from 1.1.4 to 1.1.1 using this method (which requires you to put your iPod in DFU mode, which is different than your typical restore mode). I've did it from my iTunes 7.6.1 on my Mac.

I'm hoping to jailbreak and update it to 1.1.4 WITHOUT ZiPhone... This app is weird, and the coder's blog is so absurd, I don't trust that guy.

DFU mode is really key in my downgrade. You hold both the Power and Home Button on your connected iPod that is shown in iTunes until it close down (don't slide to close). Then you release the Power button and keep pressing the Home button until iTunes says that the iPod is now in restore mode. Note that the screen on your iPod is blank all the way; no iTunes logo nor chord.

UPDATE: Nah, I'll update to 1.1.3... and will wait for 1.1.5 before attempting doing something else!

Yeah, I had to switch over to my PC once I realized jailbreak required more than one button I switched it over onto my PC with Windows XP and on ZiPhone, make sure you go to:

Advanced Features> turn off the "Select Individual actions".

Deselect: Jailbreak file system, Activate, and Unlock SIM-lock. Choose Normal Mode.

Now just keep on clicking Jailbreak up above and after about 20 times for me my iPod touch (32gb) rebooted the screen. I slid the unlock thing and voila~ Installer was there along with the ZiPhone advertisement icon (which you can delete if you have the Software Upgrade that lets you delete certain icons).

Specs: My iPod touch 32gb was the latest version that was just released with the John Legend cover. It came with 1.1.3 firmware and I updated it to 1.1.4 before Jailbreaking it.

I hope it works! Good luck :D
