How do I jailbreak my iphone 4?

I'm sorry if this is in another thread but I just couldn't find it in a way it helps me. I have an iPhone 4 that I want to jailbreak and it's my first time doing it with an Iphone 4. What are the steps to jailbreak it and what do I need to be cautious?... need all the details to do it right. What happens with the apps that are already installed?

Do you have iOS 4.1 or are you running the iOS 4.2 GM? If you are using 4.1, http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak-ios-4.1-on-iphone-4-3gs-with-limera1n-how-to-video-guide/ If you are using 4.2 then you'll have to wait until it is released to the public and for dev. team to figure it out. I tried it today and cydia won't launch on the iPhone.
