Sorry this is a really basic question im sure.

How do i know what type of ram i need, and how much my computer will hold? Im sure there is an easy way to do this.

thanks for all your help in advance

Look for the MODEL IDENTIFIER:

then go to: http://www.everymac.com/systems/by_capability/mac-specs-by-machine-model-machine-id.html and see for yourself.

brilliant web site that, do i just keep the same speed ram thats already in it or can i change that?

Use the same specs as the RAM installed.

Another good way to make sure that you purchase the correct RAM is to locate your model Here Macsales.com is a reputable company who tests and gaurantees all of their products for Macs. Several members of this forum including myself have had tremendous success using them. They also have good installation guides to help with the RAM and hard drive upgrades.
