I'd like to turn my 2GB Sony MP3 player into an iPod Shuffle by having iTunes select 2GB of random songs and then transferring those songs to my Sony. Is this possible? How do I do it?

ok, so I made the playlist, but I can't drag and drop the playlist into the 'music' folder of my Sony. what do i do?

Can you drag and drop the music from the iTunes window (with the playlist selected) to the music folder?

Keep in mind this WILL break the play order, you'll probably get all the 01 - (Trackname)'s grouped together and so on 02,03,04,05 etc.

No I can't...that's what I was trying to do. It will say "preparing to copy" for a little while, but then the copy window will close and it won't copy anything.

Stupid question, but did you actually check the formatted / available capacity of the Sony and make sure that it is larger than the size of your playlist? A 2GB MP3 player doesn't typically have an actual 2.0 gigabytes of free space....

yes, i did that. its capacity is 1.71GB...so I made the playlist 1.65GB.

ok...end thread...it works now. I had to make the playlist even smaller than 1.65GB to make it copy.

So was that the issue (the size of the playlist in GB) after all? It is odd that you don't get a more informative error message for that, seeing as how you not only get a fairly clear error when you try to sync an iPod that can't hold all the music but also get a clear error if you try to copy too many files to a USB memory stick....

Anyway, glad you got it sorted. :)

Yeah, that was the problem. I guess there's no error message because it's probably kind of a rare thing to drag n drop from iTunes into a folder on a removable disk. There was no 'informative error message' at all...the 'preparing to copy' window would just close.
