I have a backup of my old iMac (snow leopard) and now I have a new macbook air (Lion).

I'm trying to transfer my iPhone 4 backup (that i previously synced/backuped in snow leopard) to my new macbook air with Lion

I can no longer boot into my backup of my iMac because the macbook air doesn't support older OSes.

I can't use the migration assistant because my hard drive on my macbook air isn't that big

I tried

but there is no mobilesync folder in my lion (yes, i know how to re-enable seeing all the drives and home directory on Lion)

any ideas?

Until you make your first sync in Lion it would not be there. Make the folder and copy the contents from your backup to the new folder on Lion. You need to make sure you have room. Mine is about 2GB. The obvious other folder to copy from SL is iTunes. You need room for that if the migration assistant did not import it.

1. Turn off autosync in iTunes.
2. Plug iPhone into MBA.
3. Under "Devices" in iTunes, right click the iPhone and pull down to "Back Up"
4. Wait for backup to complete.
