I wasn't sure if this is the right place to ask this but I didn't see any other place for old mac software.

I have been trying to install the virtual cd/dvd utility for mac os 8.6 but the only downloads I come across are in .img format and when I click them, the only app it shows will open it is Apple Software Restore, and if I try and drag the file to stuffit expander it gives me "An error has occured attempting to mount a disk image "-43"".

What am I supposed to do?

Disk Copy should be installed in Applications / Utilities (or on the 8.5/8.6 Install CD under Utilities or CD Extras). Disk Copy will mount a .img file, however if the file was downloaded via a web browser and not encoded as a .hqx (BinHex) or .bin (MacBinary) format, then the resource fork will be missing, which will cause a compressed .img file to result in a checksum failure and not mount.

I've always relied on the commercial program Toast 4.1.2 for OS 8.x and 9. Toast will mount almost any type of disk image available at the time (.toast, .img, .smi, .bin/cue, .iso and others I'm sure)
