I saw a video around the time of wwdc showing the rMBP playing multiple 1080p videos at once. I really liked it and thought it would be fun to show off to a buddy who records a lot of video. Is it something I can do out of the box or does it only work with additional software like Final Cut X?

It works out of the box, since QT Player allows multiple windows with multiple videos open at the same time. Even playing them simultaneously is possible.

That's almost it. The demo I saw was showing off how you could play videos at their native resolution but I can't make that work. In quicktime under View > Actual Size (cmd + 1) it is greyed out and I can't actually make it show actual size. I can drag it to whatever size I want but none of them look as sharp as I think it should if I could make it play actual size, not scaled.
