How do I do this? I'm assuming I'll need a hookup of some kind. And once it's done will I need to connect my ibook and imac together every time? Thanks.

How do I put my ibook into my shared devices on my imac?

Go to System Preferences, click on "Sharing" and put checkmarks in the "Screen Sharing", "File Sharing" and "DVD or CD Sharing" services. If both your machines are on WiFi, they'll show up automatically. Otherwise you'll need an ethernet cable to connect the machines.
