How do I reconfigure external hard drive to mac settings?

I originaly had a windows when I bought my external hard drive. Now I have a mac and all the information on the external is in windows format. I am goign to move the data off of the external temporarily to reformat. I can't figure out how to reformat the external into Mac settings though? Please HELP!!!!! Would love to hear from you.

Use the Disk Utility program. It's in your /Applications/Utilities folder

To expand on the previous post, try this web site. I know a lot of people unfamiliar with Disk Utility are at a loss as to how to use it.
