how do i record a screencast or video?

I need to demo something on my mac. How do i record this demo video and share it with my friends?

i got iLife 2008.

Screenflow or Snapz Pro X will do the job nicely, as will ScreenMimic. I'm not sure if there are any free apps around to screencast.
