How do I reduce the bitrate in X-Lite ?

When I use the limited data plan from my phone shared with OS X, I want X-Lite to consume little data. I noticed on Preferences two options:

1. "Reduce bandwidth during silent periods", I will try this.
and also
2. Different codecs with different bitrate, from 6000 to 80000bps. I wonder if calls will still work if I disable some of these codecs ?
