how do I reformat and reinstall an old Windows 98 machine?

I have an old Windows 98 laptop from 1999 that probably has a million viruses on it. I'd like to donate it, but I'd like to make sure that my data is completely wiped from it and that all of the viruses have been cleaned.

I have the Windows 98 disk that came with the laptop. What's the easiest way to proceed with a full formatting of the hard drive and a reinstall?

Did you keep your startup floppy disk? Does the BIOS support booting from a CD?
