Running mojave 10.14.5...

These show up on the right hand side of my home screen and i cannot seem to get rid of them.

In finder (not another app) viewing the desktop, hit “command ,” (the command key plus the comma key).

This will send you to finder preferences.

From there you can select what you do/don’t view—including your hard drive and mounted volumes.
 
Thanks, but these aren't in the sidebar on the left hand side of the FINDER screen. They are on my home screen on the right hand side. Your hint does remove them from the FINDER sidebar, but that is not what I am seeking.

Look under "general" rather than "sidebar" in those preferences if you just want to hide them. untick "Connected servers"/
