I recently got a 12 Pro and when setting it up I am getting promoted to restore from only one of 2 iCloud backups, neither of which are the ones I want. One is the most recent, which was last night and the other is from November.

Why is it only presenting me with two options, why nothing in between? My issue is I was able to get a phone still running 14.2 which is Jailbreakable, and so I do not want to restore from last nights backup on my X which as I understand would automatically force update my iOS. Is this true, and if so how do I restore from another backup that is more recent but prior to issuing my X?

That’s not true, if it weren’t how would people get their stuff?

Restore in general is backwards compatible but the backup has to be either from an older OS version restored on to a newer OS version or backup and restore on the same version. Backup taken from a newer OS version can not be restored on to a device that’s on an older version of the OS.

iCloud backup generally keeps the latest backup from a specific group of device AKA iPhone, iPad, Mac etc. If your backup from yesterday was from a later OS version then you can’t restore it on a phone that’s running an older version of the OS.

Hope that explains it.

Both phones have to be on the same iOS in order for the back up to be possible. So I’d the iOS of you back up is older it will never work

Ok thanks, thats what I was told by Apple too. Why is everyone else in here saying either it will force me to update no matter what or that both have to be on the same iOS?

I was talking about what you wanted to do is not possible no matter how you want try and get around the requirements.
Oh you mean as far as restoring from a backup not presented to me? Yeah I know, I’ll just have to restore from the November one on my 6 which is close enough.
