If you have an iPhone 3G S and are on a Mac here is exactly how you do it:

Obviously you can substitute other phone models and firmwares, the mechanics are all the same.

ok well now that tinyumbrella has been updated to 4.01.08, does anything change?

why doesn't it say anything about copying and pasting the ecid into the website in the tinyumbrella readme?

& also, if I had a tethered JB on 3.1.2, will the instruction website you posted not work for me?

I have 4.0.1 right now, but am selling my phone and would like to wipe it clean and then jailbreak and unlock again.

With the newer versions of Umbrella, you don't need to worry about knowing your ECID, just plug your device into the computer and it automatically gets the ECID for you. Umbrella will save your SHSH whether you were already JB or not.
