I would like to restore my jailbroken phone to normal, then re-jailbreak to get rid of a bunch of crap on it.

When I click on restore from itunes, it says it will update my software to the newest version, 3.1.3 which I do not want. I want to stay on 3.1.2 so my phone is still able to be unlocked.

Anyone know how to get around that, as in restore to factory without having itunes download and install 3.1.3?

thanks

What kind of iphone do you have?
If its a 3GS you cannot restore to anything but the latest 3.1.3 unless you have SHSH's saved for previous firmware.

It is a 3GS.

As far as the SHSH's, if you are referring to how cydia asked to "make your life easier" the first time you access cydia, then no I did not do that. I didn't know that was a one time offer until tonight while I was reading up on this.

Not much you can do then.
You cannot restore without going to 3.1.3
See if you can manually delete all your stuff like texts, email accounts, apps, log out of your itunes account etc.
There's also an app thru cydia that deletes all your contacts from your phone with one click called "Erase contacts".

I think he wants to remove the jailbreak though and rejailbreak, since he said he wanted to remove a bunch crap.

If I were the OP, I’d just delete all the apps thru Cydia and start over, since you don’t want to go to 3.1.3.

Sorry to hi-jack - but what about if you have a 3G?

I'm on 3.1.2 and jailbroken and unlocked. I want to wipe the phone clean, restore, and re-jailbreak/unlock.

I have an old firmware - 04.26.08.

Can anyone shed some light?

edit: ok - i think i answered my own question. thanks anyhow!

Actually, you CAN restore a 3Gs at this moment and still keep your jailbreak + unlock. Musclenerd posted a guide a while back, and since i can't find the link, i'll explain it too you.

You will need:
- The official 3.1.3 software which has been damaged (the baseband file has been removed). I'm uploading the firmware file just for you. Will be here in about an hour.

Edit: You can download it here

- A simcard from the country your iPhone is from
- A computer with iRecovery installed. This can be somewhat tricky to install, but I'm sure you'll find a guide.

Step 1: Put your iPhone in DFU en select the firmware you downloaded above
Step 2: At the end, iTunes will give you an error. Your iPhone will boot into Recoverymode.
Step 3: Start iRecovery -s, and type the following commands when your iPhone has been found:

setenv auto-boot true

(wait a second)

saveenv

(wait a second)

reboot

Step 4: Now that your iPhone is booted, you insert the official simcard. Connect it to iTunes and it will oficially activate your iPhone.

Step 5: Run Spirit jailbreak. It's extremely easy, just connect your iPhone and click the jailbreakbutton.

Step 6: If you want to unlock, make sure that you do not install the regular blacksn0w, which hasn't been updated. Instead, download blacksn0w rc2, which you can find in this source:

And now you have a iPhone 3Gs running on 3.1.3 fully unlocked and untethered. :)

Thanks a million segers909 you saved my life :)
My baseband was 05.11.07 and it worked fine and now I have my phone back to life.
I have a friend with baseband 05.12 and it did not work for him when I tried to unlock SIM through Cydia pushfix.
Is there any way to get it back to life please

Thank in advance

Its really easy to go from 3.1.2 (no shsh) on a 3GS --> Unlocked 3.1.3. This is how I did it on my brothers phone when I sold it a few weeks ago in prep for iPhone 4:

-use pwnage tool to create a custom 3.1.3 firmware to preserve your 5.11.07 baseband
-use iTunes to restore the 3.1.3 firmware to your phone
-download blacksn0w RC2 from cydia to unlock
-done
