when i hit restore on my iPhone i get an error message, i want to revert back to 2.2.1 and then get the proper release on 3.0, to see if there are any tweeks/differences

So, what about developers that upgraded to 3.0GM on an iPod touch? At some point, Apple is going to want their $9.95.

Run this command in your Terminal.app:

curl -s -L http://phobos.apple.com/version | grep -i restore

Find the .ipsw file for your iPHone model (3G = 2,1 and 2G = 1,1) for 2_2_1, open that URL in safari, then option-click the 'check for updates' in iTunes and select the downloaded .ipsw file.

GM = Golden Master = The exact same build that will be released today.

Apple had to start loading a build onto the 3GS ages ago, and that would be the GM build.

People have some wierd theory that apple will change the build before releasing today - which is highly unlikely. They need to chose a GM, and then thoroughly test it, which takes a while.

Thank you !

Can I ask, what does GM stand for :p

Gold Master Generally a term that when something is done, you get the gold copy.

It's used alot in software terms to say that it's gone to the CD presses or, in our case, China to have all the new IPhone 3GS' updated with the new software.
