How do I see a contact photo from an iPhone to an Android device?

I can see my Mom's iPhone contact photo on my Android device using Google Messages.

When she added the photo, I was using an iPhone though and had my contacts synced with Google, since that's where all my contacts were saved and I didn't want to start over importing contacts.

Is that the only reason I can see her contact photo on my android device, because I was using an iPhone at the time?

Is there a way to get iPhone contact profile photos to show on Google Messages without syncing Google Contacts through an iPhone first?
