I updated both iPhone 6 and iPad mini to 8.1 and I still can't send texts from my iPad. What am I doing wrong?

Is it necessary for the phone to be connected to the network to receive sms ?

I am about to travel international and will not have local network over there,
I can receive the iMessage when I am connected with data.
However, will I receive sms as well ??

it's a text message forwarding feature.

therefore u need ur iphone to actually "forward" ur text.

just confirmed: u dont need it to be in the same network!

Isn't this a Bluetooth thing?

Text forwarding doesnt need Bluetooth.

Go to settings general handoff and set it there on your phone

Text forwarding has nothing to do with handsoff.
